E-motive is a network of organisations across the globe that aims to share innovative solutions to global and local issues. E-motive establishes connections between citizens, experts and organisations from Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East to share innovative and successful methods developed in the Global South. E-motive facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience and creates a setting of professional equality and mutual learning. E-motive aims to raise the awareness on global interdependencies to promote new forms of international cooperation.

From where?

E-motive was launched in the Netherlands in 2006 as one of Oxfam Novib’s innovative projects and since then over 80 exchanges have been organised between 30 Dutch and Southern organisations.

Why E-motive?

E-motive exchanges are characterised by mutual benefit: partners learn unexpected solutions from others in different parts of the planet, widening their perspective on global issues and interdependencies. The latter gain recognition and expand their networks, thereby speeding up the spreading of their methodology and establishing new ways of collaboration. In the E-motive exchanges both parties learn from each other, they open up minds with unexpected perspectives and solutions.

Who is involved?

E-motive is a network of multiple organisations: Oxfam Novib, NCDO and Movisie (the Netherlands), La Coordinadora de ONG para el Desarollo (Spain), Stowarzyszenie “Jeden Swiat” (Poland). Each consortium partner brings its unique expertise to E-motive. diverse groups are involved: citizens, youngsters, teachers, experts, civil servants, policy makers, researchers etc.

What are the steps?

Making a match between partners: typically a civic-driven change initiative based in the South with a Dutch/Polish/Spanish partner – mutual interest in establishing this connection is a must!

Developing a small first pilot of a mutual exchange: identifying what is the added value of learning this methodology for both parts, identifying the common need for change.

Small internships back and forth: the goal is to learn the methodology hands-on and to establish a deeper connection. This means that the training and facilitation will take place in origin and in destination.

Adaptation of the approach to the local context and implementation of the methodology.

Amplification of the successful civic-driven change initiative: through mass and social media, classes, conferences, discussions: people tell their own stories.

Commitment to change: after the exchanges and implementation, the different people who participate become agents of change utilizing a methodology that brings them closer to different contexts and realities.

Evaluation of impact (perception of change and change of perception).

Taking the relationship a step further: carry on second and third exchanges; promoting exchanges with different CBOs/CSOs, etc., to develop further, deeper, wider.
